Poems
When I heard the poem I could see colors emerging from the words. The colors were flowing in an irregular pattern, yet it was still a pattern. What if the lines of the poem were colors and the words in the lines the number of threads? The weft is a singular color out of the poem. Each piece uses one of the colors as the weft, making each piece a focus on one element of the poem.
That idea is where I am headed right now. I have ten colors for the warp. I analyzed the poem to identify what each of the colors mean and assigned them accordingly. Using an 8/2 cotton yarn, I am measuring the warp for ten towels, one using each of the colors as the weft. The poem is about social justice; the silence and hidden aspects of our society, especially for our black citizens.
I've started winding the warp for the loom. It is 11 yards long for each thread of yarn. I like the way the colors are lining up next to each other, especially the pop of red.
